5年くらい前に105円で買った本。大ベストセラーになったので読んだ方も多いでしょう。多くの疑問がこの本で解決しました。特に、ゲイがある意味「妊娠中の事故」によって起こるのを知ったのは大きな収穫でした。
20年ほど前は「新人類」という言葉が流行りました。今は「ゆとり世代」でしょうか。ある程度歳を取ると「今の若い人は」と、さも自分が若い時は素晴らしかったような話をする人が大勢います。でも私は、人間の本質は10年や20年では変化しないと思っています。昔から女子高生は訳のわからない言葉を使い、大人たちはその言動に眉をひそめてきましたが、その大人たちだって高校生時代はあったはずです。
この本では男女の本質は数万年前から変わっていないと指摘します。人間は穴蔵に住み、男は集団で狩り出かけ、女は子供を産み集団で子育てして身の回りの実や植物を採取する。男は狩りでチームワークが必要なので身分の上下を付け目標に向って一目散に走る性格になり、女は平等と平和を好み、身の回りの小さな変化にめざとく反応してきました。
何度読んでも納得できる、良い本です。出版から20年経ちさらに知見は増えているでしょうが、この結論が変わることはないでしょう。

There are a lot of people talking about “It’s a young person today” when taking years to some extent, and something like that was wonderful when he was young. But I think that the essence of human beings will not change in 10 or 20 years. In this book I will point out that the essence of men and women has not changed since tens of thousands of years ago.
